Like some of the other Lincoln manufacturers, Clayton & Shuttleworth opened a factory in Europe. There were several reasons for this, it meant there were not import duties, stock was not going to get damaged in transit and staff costs were lower.

£14,157 16s 10d paid for land a Floridsdorf, nr Vienna for the purpose of securing a site at a convenient spot near the town, for when it is deemed fit to move out works, which are now situated in the very heart of the city, and which cannot in their present location be further extended. 3rd November - Letter of agreement for the sale of property and business of the Company in Austria-Hungary, Roumania and Bulgaria.
Report of the Extraordinary Meeting of Shareholders on the sale of the business above. Approval for the sale and also to spend £15,000 on gratuities to long serving staff.
Approval was also given for the names Clayton & Shuttleworth to be used by the new company in these areas, but not outside. (Stamford Mercury - Friday 24 November 1911)

January - Hofherr Schrantz Clayton & Shuttleworth formed following the sale of the business in Austria-Hungary, Roumania and Bulgaria to Hoffher Schrantz
